Seattle Storm and D.A. Davidson co-honor 'women of inspiration'

SEATTLE - The Seattle Storm today announced the recipients of their inaugural "Women of Inspiration" award presented by D.A. Davidson. The honorees are five outstanding women who are leaders in their respective fields. All five women share the characteristics of being bold, energetic, and passionate and are helping to generate change within their communities.

The five nominees will be honored during a halftime ceremony at the Storm's game vs. Sacramento tomorrow. The theme of Tuesday's game at KeyArena is "Night of Champions" and features the 2004 WNBA Champion Storm facing the 2005 WNBA Champion Monarchs at 7 p.m. Presenting the nominees with their awards are Seattle Storm Chief Operating Officer Karen Bryant, Seattle Storm Head Coach and Director of Player Personnel Anne Donovan and ESPN analyst Ann Meyers.

The five honorees are Trish Millines Dziko, co-founder and executive director of the Technology Access Foundation; Kathi Goertzen, KOMO 4 News; Dr. Mary-Claire King, American Cancer Society professor of medicine and genome sciences at the University of Washington; Karen Moyer, co-founder and vice president of The Moyer Foundation and Mary Ellen Stone, executive director of the King County Sexual Assault Resource Center.

"We're honored to present these five outstanding women with the inaugural ‘Women of Inspiration' distinction," said Storm Chief Operating Officer Karen Bryant. "We feel these strong role models and their accomplishments exemplify everything the WNBA, the Storm organization and our players and coaches represent."

"We're thrilled to partner with the Storm to recognize these five extraordinary women," added D.A. Davidson's senior executive Bob Magnuson. "I've always found it imperative to honor the outstanding achievements of women within our community."

The Seattle Sonics & Storm organization manages the Puget Sound region's professional basketball franchises - the NBA's Seattle SuperSonics and the WNBA's Seattle Storm.
