Chico Outlaws News Release
Looking to start another winning streak during a home-stand, the Outlaws came up short this evening, baffled by sidewinding Victoria starter Austin Bibens-Dirkx.
Bibens-Dirkx, making his third start of the season, threw seven shutout innings, striking out 9 Outlaw batters and only surrendering five hits. Bibens-Dirkx collected his second win of the evening, leavin4g with a 7-0 lead after seven innings.
The Seals offense scored single tallies in the first and second inning, and then both starters would cruise from the third to the sixth without any runs scoring. Outlaws starter Evan White, looking for his third win in three starts at home pitched well, but ended up allowing 6 earned runs as he pitched into the eighth inning.
Offensively for Victoria, Brett Flowers was 3-for-4 with 2 RBI, Brian Rios was 4-for-5 with an RBI, and newcomer Carlos Duncan was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. The Seals salted the game away with two runs in the 7th and three more in the 8th, making it 7-0 before the Outlaws would finally break up the shutout.
In the 8th, three consecutive two-out baseknocks plated two Outlaw runs, and gave the crowd of over 3,000 something to cheer about. Dan Luyben laced an RBI triple down the right-field line, and Jason Crosland followed with an RBI chop-single into center to plate Luyben, but that would be all the Outlaws offense could muster tonight.
Thus, in their first ever meeting, the Seals and Outlaws will face-off in a rubber-match Sunday evening to decide the series victor. Early first pitch on Sunday, 6:05 p.m. as both teams will be traveling away from Northern California after the ballgame.
