Edmonton Capitals News Release

Edmonton, AB - Signature Sunday, featuring Early Father's Day Celebrations, saw the Capitals (8-8) fall to the St. George RoadRunners (12-4) in ten innings. The game was back-and-forth in the early going, as both teams had six runs after five complete. The RoadRunners then mixed small-ball with heads-up base running in the extra frame to score three runs and take the final game of the series 9-6.

Chad Ehrnsberger led the Capitals offensively with two hits, batting out of the five-spot in the order and Darryl Brinkley drove in two Caps runs. First baseman AJ Valentine and third baseman Angel Sanchez combined for five hits to lead the RoadRunner attack, including back-to-back homeruns in two separate innings. The corner infielders also knocked in two runs each. Catcher Jose Rodriguez added two RBI of his own after being inserted as a late inning defensive substitution.

Both teams' starting pitchers exited long before the game was decided. Eude Brito (2-0) received the win in relief for St. George, while Derrick DePriest (0-1) took the loss. Bartolome Fortunato pitched a scoreless tenth inning for his league leading fourth save.

The Capitals next action will be Monday night as they will host the Yuma Scorpions for the first of a three-game series at TELUS Field that will run through Wednesday. The Scorpions (3-10) have lost four straight, including a three-game sweep in their last series with the Long Beach Armada, and currently sit in fourth place in the South Division of the Golden Baseball League.
