Sea Dogs Sweep Fisher Cats in Doubleheader

Manchester, New Hampshire - The Portland Sea Dogs swept the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in Friday night's doubleheader at Delta Dental Ballpark, 8-3 and 9-2. Triston Casas exploded for three home runs (two in game one) and now has 10 long balls this season. Ronaldo Hernandez extended his hitting streak to 13 games with two hits in each of the game of the doubleheader tonight.

In game one, the Sea Dogs were first to strike in the top of the first inning. Devlin Granberg doubled to left field then scored on an RBI single by Ronaldo Hernandez.

In the top of the third inning, Granberg drew a lead-off walk. Casas then blasted a two-run home run to right field, extending Portland's lead 3-0. Hernandez then recorded his second hit of the night, a double to right field. Hudson Potts then doubled him home and the Sea Dogs continued to lead, 4-0.

Portland would continue the scoring into the fourth inning. Tyreque Reed drew a lead-off walk then moved to second on a single by Granberg. Casas then connected for his second homer of the game, sending this one 478 feet, 111 mph off the bat to right field. Hernandez was then hit-by-a-pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Fitzgerald.

New Hampshire scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. With the bases loaded, Vinny Capra roped a bases clearing double to the left field corner and the Fisher Cats were on the board, 8-3.

Josh Winckowski earned his seventh win of the season pitching 5.0 innings allowing three runs on four hits while walking four and striking out six. Mike Ellenbest was given the loss, tossing 1.0 inning allowing one run on three hits while walking one and striking out one.

In game two, the Sea Dogs also started scoring in the first inning. Granberg singled to right field then scored on an RBI double by Ronaldo Hernandez. Ryan Fitzgerald then drove his 25th double of the year to right field, scoring Hernandez and the Sea Dogs led, 2-0.

In the second inning, Devlin Granberg drove home Cameron Cannon with an RBI single to centerfield, extending Portland's lead, 3-0. Granberg scored when Casas was caught in a rundown between first and second base. Portland led, 4-0 after the second inning.

Casas then blasted his third homer of the doubleheader, a two-run shot to right field and the Sea Dogs led, 6-0.

The scoring continued in the top of the sixth inning. After reaching on a single to right field, Nick Sogard scored on a wild pitch. Ronaldo Hernandez then hit his second double of the game, driving home two more runs for the Sea Dogs, extending their lead 9-0.

Back-to-back singles by Demi Orimoloye and Brock Lundquist in the bottom of the sixth inning put the Fisher Cats on the board, 9-2.

Victor Santos earned his fifth win of the year pitching 5.1 innings allowing two runs on six hits while walking a season-high two batters and striking out five.

The Sea Dogs and Fisher Cats will meet again tomorrow September 4th at 7:05pm. New Hampshire will send RHP Luis Quinones (2-3, 4.60 ERA) to the mound while Portland is TBA.
