Portland Sea Dogs News Release
(Bowie, MD) - Baysox LF Jonathan Tucker snapped a 3-3 tie with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning and the pitching staff retired 21 of the final 22 batters faced, leading the Bowie Baysox (62-57) to a 4-3 come-from-behind win over the Portland Sea Dogs (58-60) on Saturday night at Prince George's Stadium. The Sea Dogs will conclude their 6-game (2-3) roadtrip on Sunday night in Maryland.
RHP Ryohei Tanaka (3-2) allowed three unearned runs over 6 IP to grab the win for Bowie. The righty retired the final 12 batters faced, issued two walks and fanned five. RHP Fredy Deza and LHP Chad Thall earned holds with scoreless frames. RHP Luis Lebron converted his 4th save of the year with a perfect ninth inning.
The Sea Dogs led 3-1 after two innings and started the third with singles from 3B Jorge Jimenez and 1B Jon Still. Portland's only baserunner after those two hits was a CF Ryan Kalish single to lead off the eighth inning.
RHP Jarod Plummer (8-7) suffered the loss for Portland, despite notching a quality start. Plummer surrendered four runs (three earned) on nine hits, two walks and four strikeouts. The game-winning run in the sixth inning was a result of an error by 2B Ryan Khoury, allowing SS Jason White to reach base and sending RF Dave Krynzel to third base. Tucker followed with a sac-fly to Kalish in right-center field.
The Sea Dogs were aided by Bowie 2B Miguel Abreu to score 3 two-out unearned runs in the second inning to grab a 3-0 lead. RF Daniel Nava walked and was safe on a fielder's choice when Abreu dropped a throw from 3B Josh Bell. SS Yamaico Navarro struck out but LF Jason Place nailed a 2-run double off the left-field wall. 3B Iggy Suarez followed with a run-scoring two bagger.
Bowie scored the game's next three runs, receiving a 2-out RBI single by C Adam Donachie in the second inning to score Abreu. In the third, Abreu would make up first his error which led to 3 unearned runs, striking a 2-run double to tie the game at three.
RHP Chris Province and RHP Richie Lentz each tossed scoreless innings of relief for the Sea Dogs, who lead the season series over the Baysox 4-1.
Portland and Bowie play the rubber matchup of their 3-game series on Sunday night at 6:05 PM from Prince George's Stadium. Catch all the action on the U.S. Cellular Sea Dogs Radio Network beginning at 5:35 PM with the Pre-Game Show built by CorrectDeck.
