Mahoning Valley Scrappers News Release
(Staten Island, NY)-Triston McKenzie continued his brilliant start to the season as he tossed five innings of two hit baseball allowing just a single unearned run. However, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers offense was unable to get any runs on the board as they were shutout by the Staten Island Yankees 2-0 on Saturday night. The Scrappers have now lost all eight series played to start the season.
After McKenzie allowed just one hit through the first three innings, the Yankees would get on the board in the bottom of the fourth.
With one out, Luis Torrens drew a walk off of McKenzie. He would advance to second on a passed ball by catcher Logan Ice. Following a strikeout, Drew Bridges delivered a two out single to score Torrens for the 1-0 lead.
The Yankees would add another run in the bottom of the seventh inning. With one out, Timmy Robinson connected on a solo homerun off of Argenis Angulo to push the Yankees lead out to the final of 2-0.
Mahoning Valley had chances throughout the game but could not convert offensively. The Scrappers would strand eight runners on base between the first and sixth innings and would out hit the Yankees, 8-4.
