New Mexico Scorpions News Release
[ RIO RANCHO, N.M.]- The New Mexico Scorpions, proud member of the Central Hockey League (CHL), dropped a 5-2 decision to their rivals from Arizona Friday night. With snow falling outside the team heated the ice up early in the Santa Ana Star Center .
The Scorpions got on the board first as Vladimir Hartinger pick up his fifth goal of the year 4:37 into the contest. Arizona wasted no time fighting back and took control of the game just 59-seconds later.
Brent Kelly was awarded a penalty shot as Matt Frick was called for interference much to the dismay of the home crowd. Less than three minutes later the Sundogs would grab the lead for good when Dan DiSilva scored his sixth goal of the year.
The Sundogs continued to add to their lead in the first 20-minutes as Chris Bartolone shot the puck from outside the blue line. On the way to the net the puck was deflected off a Scorpions' stick and into the back of the net. DiSilva would add his second goal of the game with a late first period goal sending the Sundogs to the locker room with a three goal lead.
The Scorpions took momentum when Mike Falk scored a second period power play goal. It was Falk's 10th power play goal of the season, second most in the CHL.
Arizona got a power play goal of their own with less than three minutes remaining in the middle frame. Jon Landry picked up a rebound goal giving the Sundogs back their three-goal lead after the second period.
The Scorpions opened up the scoring in the third period with a beautiful goal. Goalie Brad Smith moved the puck to Mike Falk who fed a perfect pass to Lance Herauf. Herauf skated in alone and beat goalie Chris King through the five hole.
