Scoring Woes Haunt Cougars

LANGLEY, BC - The Prince George Cougars were shutout for the second consecutive night, as they were blanked 4-0 by the Vancouver Giants Saturday at the Langley Events Centre.

On the heels of a 1-0 setback to the Kamloops Blazers Friday, the Cougars could not crack the scoresheet on Saturday against the Giants, despite firing 38 shots at the Vancouver net.

Milos Roman scored twice for Vancouver and Tristen Nielsen had a goal and three points. Cole Shepard had the other Giants' goal. David Tendeck picked up the win in the Giants' crease and earned his third shutout of the season.

The Giants led 1-0 through 20-minutes on Roman's first of two on the night. In the middle frame, Shepard and Roman scored in the final 10-minutes of the period to put Vancouver up 3-0 after two periods. Roman's second goal coming with less than three seconds left on the clock. Nielsen tacked on a goal early in the third period to finish off the scoring.

Prince George came close to tying the game on a power-play in the second period. Down 1-0, Josh Maser appeared to bat the puck into the Giants' net after a short scramble. However, the referee immediately waved off the goal ruling Maser had contacted the puck with a high stick. Video review upheld the call on the ice.

Tyler Brennan suffered his first loss in his young WHL career, as he surrendered four goals on 23 shots. He had won his previous two starts.

Game Notes: The Cougars scoreless streak is now at 167 minutes. Their last goal came in the first period on November 9th against Victoria. 17-year-old Aiden Reeves made his WHL debut on Saturday for Prince George. The defenceman was called up from the Cariboo Cougars in the BC Major Midget League, after injuries on the blue-line to Joe Kennedy and Rhett Rhinehart. Prince George is now winless in their last seven (0-6-0-1).
