Saskatoon Blades News Release
Saskatoon, SK - The offense was sputtering all night as the Saskatoon Blades dropped a 4-1 decision to the Calgary Hitmen for Video Game Night on Saturday in Saskatoon.
Calgary came out of the gates strong, outshooting Saskatoon 9-2 and quickly grabbed a 2-nothing lead before the Blades managed the halve the Hitmen's lead with a power play goal after Aidan De La Gorgendiere was checked up high. With the man advantage, Saskatoon worked the puck around the top and before Zach Huber's blast found the stick of Riley McKay to tip in 9th goal of the season.
Following some altercations at the end of the first period, Saskatoon started the second period on an important 5-on-3, but were unable to convert on the man advantage. After the Blades man advantage the Hitmen outshot the Blades 11-4 in the period and managed to sneak in two more goals via deflections in the last six minutes as they lead 4-1 after 40 minutes.
In the third period Saskatoon managed to restrict Calgary to just three shots on net, however they were unable to find the back of the net themselves. Tristen Robins was hooked on a breakaway and awarded a penalty shot, but was unable to convert. The score remained unchanged and the Hitmen claimed their first victory over the Blades for the season 4-1.
Saskatoon have a quick turn around as they immediately face the Moose Jaw Warriors at SaskTel Center with a 2:30pm puck drop tomorrow.
Be sure to bring your skates to the game as it is another Mosaic Family Skate Day where all fans are invited to skate with the Blades after the game.
