Richmond Roosters News Release
Richmond, Indiana - Richmond won 6-2 over River City on Sunday on a solid pitching performance by Matt Schweitzer who pitched all nine innings. Kevin White and Tony Sanguinetti hit home runs to secure Richmond's third straight series win. The Roosters have now won seven of their last eight games and are back to .500 at 31-31 for the first time since they were 1-1 to start the season.
The Roosters scored first for the second night in a row when Kevin White crushed a three-run homer over the retired numbers in right field. Gerald Miller and Mike Reese scored on the dinger to give Richmond a 3-0 after one inning of play.
Mike Reese worked a bases loaded walk in the fourth to score Mike Bidwell, which made it a four-run lead for Richmond. Another run scored in the fifth when Nate Gravley singled to left, stole two bases and scored on a throwing error by the catcher. The Roosters took a 6-0 lead in the seventh when Tony Sanguinetti hit a leadoff homer to right.
The Rascals finally got on the board in the eighth getting two runs on a couple of groundouts to cut the lead to 6-2 that would be all the offense they would get. Matt Schweitzer (5-5) pitched a complete game for Richmond for the win, giving up only two runs on four hits while striking out seven. Brian Keating (1-6) took the loss.
Richmond (31-31) and River City (32-29) will finish the series on Monday at 6:35 p.m. (Indiana time) at McBride Stadium. Keith Laughlin (0-0, 4.91 ERA) will make his first start for Richmond and oppose Steven Brook (6-2, 4.15 ERA) of River City.
