ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford RiverHawks scored six times in the fourth inning to take the lead and held on to beat the Ohio Valley Redcoats, 11-9.
The RiverHawks moved into a tie with Kalamazoo for the Frontier League West lead, in front of 2,331 at Marinelli Field. Kalamazoo lost, 4-1, at Evansville.
Ashley Farr had a RBI single in each of his first four at-bats, and was 4-for-5.
The RiverHawks sent 11 to the plate in the fourth and took a 10-5 lead. Nick Johnson's sacrifice fly drove in the go-ahead run. Farr's RBI single made it a two-run lead and drove out Ohio Valley starter Luke Adkins (4-5). Chris Rich singled in two more off Justin Gerlach.
Dave Parker (1-1) gave up four runs in two-thirds of an inning, but got the win in relief. Jason Glosser struck out Jud Richards to end a bases-loaded jam in the eighth and earned his ninth save.
The Frontier League is off on Tuesday and resumes play on Wednesday. The RiverHawks will be in Chillicothe for the opener of a six-game road trip. They'll be back on August 9, when Kalamazoo is in town for a Two-for-Tuesday. Hot dogs and soft drinks are each two for $2, courtesy of Dr Pepper/7-Up.
The RiverHawks are the defending champions of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 13th season. All games are broadcasted live on WRHL-FM, 102.3 - the Hub.
