ROCKFORD, Ill. - Steve Ainsworth's usual ride is a 1997 Chevy pickup with 127,000 miles on it. From now on, he'll be driving around in a 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser.

Ainsworth took home the big prize in the Bryden Motors Dice Toss during the Rockford RiverHawks' game Sunday at Marinelli Field. The 44-year-old fan was randomly selected for the on-field promotion and successfully rolled four dice with the right faces up to win the PT Cruiser.

"It was pretty wild," Ainsworth said. "I put the Bryden logo toward the ground and just spun them when I put them down. I figure that would give me just as good a chance as anything."

The crowd of 1,897 erupted and Rocko the mascot made a celebratory tackle as the fourth die turned right side up. Bryden Motors of Beloit, Wis. sponsors the nightly on-field promotion and provided the insured prize.

Ainsworth put his immediate reaction in one word: "Shock."

The South Beloit resident has been a longtime fan of Rockford professional baseball. "I've been coming since the Cubbies were there, the Expos even," he said.

He already has a fairly new vehicle, a 2000 Mustang, that he drove to the game Sunday, but he said he'll be behind the wheel of the PT Cruiser wherever he goes.

"Probably take it and show it off to some people," Ainsworth said. "I think I'll go tease my brother with it because he's been wanting one since they came out."

The RiverHawks are the defending champions of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 13th season. All games are broadcasted live on WRHL-FM, 102.3 - the Hub.
