Frederick Keys News Release
FREDERICK, MD - The Frederick Keys are excited to announce that Orioles second baseman, Jonathan Schoop, is scheduled to play for the Keys on a Major League rehab assignment Monday night at Nymeo Field. First pitch is slated for 7:00 p.m against the Lynchburg Hillcats. Schoop has been on the disabled list since April 14 with a right oblique strain. He is the first Orioles player to appear with the Keys on an MLB rehab in 2018.
In 14 games with the Orioles this season, Schoop, 26, is slashing .230/.266/.344 with one home run, three RBIs, four doubles and seven runs scored. His last Major League game came at Boston on April 13 when he was 2-for-4.
Schoop has played three rehab games between the Triple-A Norfolk Tides and the Double-A Bowie Baysox. He is 1-for-10 during this time with six strikeouts. The Curacao native played second base on Saturday and Sunday with Norfolk, finishing 1-for-8 with five strikeouts.
Coming off a terrific 2017 season, Schoop batted .293/.338/.503 with 32 home runs, 105 RBIs and 35 doubles to go with 92 runs scored. The 32 home runs and 105 RBIs were the most ever in a single season by an Orioles second baseman. Schoop was named an American League All-Star, the first time he had been selected in his career.
A member of the Keys from 2010-11, Schoop played on the 2011 Mills Cup Championship team. His double play partner was current Orioles shortstop, Manny Machado. Against the Kinston Indians in the league championship series, Schoop batted .353 (6-for-17) with three RBIs and two runs scored. He hit .271 that season with five home runs and 37 RBIs in 37 games.
Not the first time Schoop has rehabbed with his former team, the O's infielder last suited up for Frederick in July 2015, going 3-for-9 with a home run in two games.
The Keys homestand against the Hillcats runs from Monday-Wednesday. In the series opener, right-hander Cristian Alvarado (3-2, 4.18) starts for Frederick against Lynchburg left-hander Tanner Tully (1-2, 4.23). First pitch is slated for 7:00 p.m and the broadcast can be heard on frederickkeys.com and the TuneIn app. For ticket information, fans can call the Keys at 301-815-9939 or visit frederickkeys.com.
The Frederick Keys are the Advanced-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, and play their home games at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium. In 2017, the Keys received the Esurance Home Field Advantage Award for Carolina League for the second straight season, after leading the circuit in highest percentage of attendance based on ballpark capacity. The club will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2018. For more information about the Frederick Keys please contact Geoff Arnold by phone at (301)-815-9915 or by emailing at GArnold@FrederickKeys.com.
