RAYADOS EDGE ASTROS 5-3 ON SUNDAY

Yeyson Yrizarri tied a career-high with four hits in a 4-for-4 afternoon to lead the Winston-Salem Rayados to a 5-3 win over Buies Creek on Sunday afternoon at BB&T Ballpark. The Dash rebranded as the Winston-Salem Rayados for the first time as part of Minor League Baseball's "Copa De La Diversión" initiative to embrace participating teams' local Hispanic/Latino communities. Down 2-0 in the fifth, Yrizarri tied the game with a two-run double to right against Astros starter Hector Perez. Later in the frame, Blake Rutherford smoked a two-run triple into the right-center field gap to put Winston-Salem ahead for good. On the mound, right-hander Dylan Cease pitched six strong innings, allowing eight hits and one earned run while striking out six to pick up his fourth victory of the year.

NOTHING LIKE HOME COOKIN'

Thanks to Sunday's victory, the Dash completed an impressive 5-1 homestand with series victories over the Lynchburg Hillcats and the Astros. Winston-Salem outscored its two opponents 40-20 over this six-game stretch. Including Cease's start, Winston-Salem's starting rotation posted a 4-1 record with a 2.78 ERA, and the bullpen notched a 1.66 ERA in 21.1 innings pitched. At 10-4 through its first 14 games, Winston-Salem is tied for its second-best start at home since BB&T Ballpark opened in 2010.

CEASE NAMED CL POW

Thanks to dominant outings over Lynchburg and Buies Creek, Winston-Salem right-hander Dylan Cease has earned the Carolina League's Pitcher of the Week award for the week of April 30-May 6, the league office announced on Monday. Cease overpowered the Hillcats in the Dash's 9-0 win at BB&T Ballpark on Tuesday, tossing a career-high seven innings and notching a career-high 12 strikeouts, followed by his aforementioned outing against the Astros. One of four prospects traded from the Cubs to the White Sox last July for big leaguer Jose Quintana, Cease went a combined 2-0 with a 0.69 ERA and 18 strikeouts in 13 innings pitched.

RUTHERFORD CONTINUES TO MASH

Thanks to his two-run triple on Sunday, Rutherford extended his hitting streak to nine games. The former first-round pick with the Yankees is now 13-for-36 (.361) with a homer, two triples and 10 RBIs during this stretch. Traded over from New York for three other players (LHP Ian Clarkin, RHP Tyler Clippard and OF Tito Polo) in exchange for RHPs Tommy Kahnle and David Robertson and INF Todd Frazier, Rutherford sits third in the Carolina League in batting average with a .347 mark.

THRIVING OFFENSIVELY

Following back-to-back five-hit efforts at the end of April, which were tied for the lowest total in a game for the Dash offense this season, the unit has re-established themselves as the best in the 10-team circuit with solid performances to begin the month of May. Winston sits atop the Carolina League in several offensive categories, including batting average (.279), on-base percentage (.365), slugging percentage (.444) and doubles (72). Meanwhile, the team is second in the league in hits (280) and runs scored (153).

FIRST TIME AT HALEY TOYOTA FIELD

Monday marks the beginning of a three-game set against the Salem Red Sox, who Winston-Salem will see a total of 21 times in 2018, the second-most games among all opponents this year. Salem split a four-game set against the Dash at BB&T Ballpark from April 19-22. This marks the first trip to Salem, Va., for the Dash this season. Overall, Winston-Salem is 88-102-1 all-time against the Salem franchise.

DASH DOTS

Luis Martinez will take the hill for Winston-Salem in the series opener...Martinez recorded his first High-A win on Wednesday, tossing five innings and allowing two runs in a 9-2 victory over the Lynchburg Hillcats in front of a crowd of 7,281, the eighth-largest crowd in BB&T Ballpark history...Winston currently ranks second in the CL with a 3.15 ERA, only .02 points behind Buies Creek.
