Schobel Named Midwest League Player of the Month

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - Cedar Rapids infielder Tanner Schobel has been named Midwest League Player of the Month for the month of June. Schobel played in 23 of the Kernels' 25 games in June and finished the month slashing .323/.400/.613 for a league-best 1.013 OPS. Schobel also posted league-highs in hits (30), runs (25), home runs (7), RBI (26) and SLG% (.613).

Schobel was also named Midwest League Player of the Week in June for the week of June 19-25. In the series against Beloit, Schobel slashed .421/.500/1.158 for a Midwest League-best 1.658 OPS. Across the six games in the week, Schobel led the league in home runs (4), total bases (22), runs (9), slugging (1.158) and OPS (1.658) during that stretch.

Schobel's success in June helped the Kernels post a 17-8 record in the month, holding a league-best 17 wins. The Kernels in June recorded 159 runs, 25 more than anyone else in the league, for an average of 6.4 runs per game. Cedar Rapids hit a league-best 35 home runs (1.4 per game), six more than the next closest team, and walked an MWL-high 117 (4.7 per game) times across the 25 games.

Overall on the season, Schobel leads the team with a .282 batting average slashing .282/.357/.473 for a .830 OPS. Schobel is tied for the league lead with 54 RBI and is tied for third in the league with 12 home runs.
