Late Inning Magic Strikes as Carp Beat Rattlers

GRAND CHUTE, Wis.- The Beloit Sky Carp had to make a little more magic happen to pick up their first victory of the series against Wisconsin Thursday night.
Cam Barstad picked up a pinch-hit single, and with the help of a Wisconsin error, the Sky Carp plated a pair of runs in the top of the ninth inning to send the game into extra innings.
Barstad struck again in the 11th with an RBI single, Jacob Berry followed with a sacrifice fly, and Beloit hung on to win 8-6.
Things certainly weren't looking up for the squad after the Timber Rattlers jumped on starting pitcher Jared Poland for four runs in the opening inning. But Poland settled down and the bullpen was outstanding all night for Beloit.
The Sky Carp picked up single runs in both the second and third innings to creep back into the game. After Wisconsin scored a run in the fourth to make it 5-2, Zach Zubia's seventh-inning RBI double set up the dramatic ninth inning comeback.
Beloit's bullpen featured scoreless outings by Breidy Encarnacion (two innings) and Caleb Wurster (two innings). Chandler Jozwiak (1-1) allowed just one unearned run in his two frames to pick up the win, while Luarbert Arias got the save with a perfect 11th inning.
The Sky Carp and Timber Rattlers will be back at it Friday night at 6:40 p.m. Beloit's next home game will be Friday, July 14 against Cedar Rapids.
The Beloit Sky Carp are the High-A Affiliate of the Miami Marlins and play their games at ABC Supply Stadium -- the heart of the Riverbend District.
