Kelowna Rockets News Release
Saskatchewan Hockey announced earlier today that Kelowna Rockets prospect Boston Schmidt has been named to Saskatchewan's Male Under-16 team for the upcoming 2023 WHL Cup.
Schmidt, 15, was drafted by the Rockets in the ninth round (180 overall) at the 2023 WHL Prospects draft. The forward will spend the 2023-24 season with the Yorkton Maulers U18 AAA of the SMAAAHL.
The WHL Cup will take place October 17-22, 2023 in Red Deer. The tournament features players born in 2008 on teams from the four Western Canadian provinces (BC, AB, SK, MB) competing in a round-robin tournament format followed by playoffs.
Fellow Rockets prospects Eli Barrett and Kanjyu Gojsic were named to Team BC.
The WHL Cup, established in 2009, is held every season except in years when the Canada Winter Games are held, and is the first step in Hockey Canada's Program of Excellence for players.
