Lethbridge Hurricanes News Release
LETHBRIDGE, AB - The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club announced Wednesday that the trio of Miguel Marques, Tristen Doyle and Will Sharpe will donate to KidSport Lethbridge and Taber and the Canadian Cancer Society during the 2023-2024 Western Hockey League regular season.
The trio will donate $10.00 for every point they register during the new season, with $5.00 going to KidSport and $5.00 to the Canadian Cancer Society.
"We are very excited to be able to continue the tradition and legacy of great former Lethbridge Hurricanes while being able to help support two charities that are very close to us, " said Marques. "Being able to donate to KidSport so that under-privileged kids can play sports is important to all three of us, while also being able to support the Canadian Cancer Society to help try to find a cure for a disease that has impacted all of our families."
The history of donating by Hurricanes players was originally initiated by former 'Canes captain Tyler Wong during the 2015-2016 season. Wong was then joined by teammates Carter Folk and Ryley Lindgren, then later Giorgio Estephan, who helped raised nearly $20,000 over two seasons. The initiative was then continued by Ty Nash in 2021-2022 when he donated $10.00 for every goal he scored.
The Hurricanes organization will also match the trio's total dollar for dollar for KidSport and Canadian Cancer Society.
"We are always so proud of our players who choose to donate their own money to charities in our community during the season," said Hurricanes General Manager of Business Operations, Terry Huisman. "It is an automatic for the hockey club to be able to match the three 's donation for the great charities of KidSport and the Canadian Cancer Society."
If you would like to donate along with Miguel, Tristen and Will, email admin@lethbridgehurricanes.com.
