Regina, Sask. - The Regina Pats Hockey Club have claimed 2003-born defenceman Keegan Slaney off waivers from the Calgary Hitmen.

Slaney, 20, enters his fifth and final season in the WHL after spending parts of the last four seasons with the Hitmen and Edmonton Oil Kings. The Airdrie, Alta. product tallied 13 points (5G-8A) in 60 games with the Hitmen last season. The 5-foot-9, 185 lb. left-shot defenceman has played in 175 career WHL games, recording 34 points (10G-24A) and a +7 plus-minus rating. He was previously drafted by the Edmonton Oil Kings in the first round (20th overall) of the 2018 WHL Prospects Draft.

"We're pleased to add Keegan to our hockey club," Regina Pats VP, Hockey Operations & GM Alan Millar said. "He's an experienced, competitive, veteran defensemen, who will fit in well with our group and how we want to play."

Slaney joins fellow overagers Zack Stringer, Parker Berge and Drew Sim on the roster. Sim will begin the season on the injured list with a lower-body injury.

Additionally, the Pats have reassigned 2007-born defenceman Brayden Smith to the Saskatoon Blazers U18 AAA program. The roster now consists of 14 forwards, eight defencemen and three goalies.
