Schenn Chosen Player Of The Month

Brandon, Manitoba -- One of the Western Hockey League's exciting new players has been chosen the Brandon Wheat Kings' Player of the Month for November.

In winning the monthly award, 16-year old Brayden Schenn edged out netminder Joe Caligiuri. A former first round bantam draft choice of the Wheat Kings, Schenn led the Wheat Kings in scoring this month with seven goals and 13 points in eleven games.

Entering Saturday night's game against the Broncos in Swift Current, Schenn leads all Western Hockey League rookies in scoring with eleven goals and 24 points in 27 games. He currently leads Johnny Lazo of the Tri-City Americans and T.J. Galiardi of the Calgary Hitmen by two points.

In recognition of the honour, Brayden will receive a shirt, a tie and suit from Tip Top Tailors in the Shoppers Mall, the official menswear clothier of the Wheat Kings during one of the club's December home games. Saturday's game is the first of a 3-game road trip for Schenn and the Wheat Kings, who travel to Medicine Hat to meet the Tigers on Sunday night before playing the Pats in Regina on Tuesday night.

In nine appearances this month, Caligiuri compiled a 2.37 goals against average, a 6-3-0 record and a sparkling .935 save percentage.

Schenn joins 20-year old Tyler Dittmer as winners of the club's monthly award this season. Dittmer, who was the September / October recipient, currently leads Brandon in scoring with 20 goals and 35 points in 27 games.

The Wheat Kings enter the weekend with a record of 17-9-0-1, good for 35 points and a share of second place with Swift Current in the WHL's Eastern Division. As for the Conference, Brandon is tied for fourth - one point behind Regina, three back of the second place Lethbridge Hurricanes and five behind the front running Calgary Hitmen.

Calgary hosts Spokane, Saskatoon travels to Lethbridge and Swift Current entertains Kootenay in three of 7 games on Friday night's Western League schedule.
