
Savannah Walks off against Power

(Savannah, GA- April 28, 2013)- The West Virginia Power lost a 3-2 walk-off decision to the Savannah Sand Gnats on Sunday at Grayson Stadium. Cole Frenzel singled in the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to send the Power to their third straight loss in the series.
West Virginia jumped on spot starter Matt Koch two runs in the first inning. Dilson Herrera reached on an error and moved to second on a Josh Bell base hit. Stetson Allie singled in Herrera and Bell scored on base hit by Eric Wood for a 2-0 lead.
Savannah scored its' first run off Power starter John Kuchno in the bottom of the third. Brandon Nimmo was hit by a pitch, moved to second on a Jeff Glenn walk, and scored on a Frenzel double to cut West Virginia's lead in half.
The starters and bullpens held the opposition at bay over the next four innings. West Virginia had multiple base runners on in the fifth but could not add an insurance run. Savannah loaded the bases in the sixth on three walks before Ryan Hafner struck out Nimmo to end the threat.
In the eighth, the Sand Gnats tied the game against Bryton Trepagnier. Frenzel singled and moved to second on a Stefan Sabol single. A fielder's choice put runner son the corners and Frenzel score the tying run on an infield ground out.
In the bottom of the ninth, Trepagnier hit Kevin Plawecki with a pitch and allowed a single to Glenn to put the winning run at second. Frenzel singled to left fielder Jon Schwind and Savannah manager waved Plawecki home. Schwind's throw was on line toward the plate but not in time to get Plawecki as the winning run scored.
Trepagnier (0-2) was charged with a blown save and took the loss, the first walk-off defeat for the Power this season. Tyler Vanderheiden (1-0) pitched a scored top of the ninth and earned the win. Herrera, Bell, and Allie pacedthe Power offense with six hits each in the loss.
West Virginia and Savannah conclude this series on Monday evening at 7:05 pm Tyler Glasnow will start for the Power against the Sand Gnats Matt Bowman. West Virginia returns to Appalachian Power Park on May 1 to open a seven-game, eight-day homestand against the Greensboro Grasshoppers and Greenville Drive.
