Games #24 (10-13) - Away Game #13 (7-6)

RHP Jake Cose (2-2, 3.60) vs. RHP Gabe Encinas (3-0, 0.39)

Today's Preview: The Intimidators (A, White Sox) look to get back into the series against the RiverDogs (A, Yankees) after dropping the first two games. Kannapolis has lost three in a row and nine of their last 12 since opening the season 7-4. The Intimidators are 10-13, fifth in the SAL Northern, 4.0 games behind first-place Hickory (14-9). The RiverDogs are tied for fourth in the SAL Southern, 3.0 games behind Augusta (15-7).

Intimidating Starters: Jake Cose, 22, makes his fifth start of the season and second on the road after three straight home starts. He is coming off consecutive losses, giving up 11 runs (seven earned) over 9 1/3 innings in his last two starts. In his last start, Cose gave up four runs (one earned) while scattering seven hits over 5.0 innings. Cose opened 2013 with 5.0 scoreless innings at Lakewood. The White Sox picked him in the 27th round of the June 2011 draft out of San Joaquin Delta (Calif.) Junior College where he helped the Mustangs to the California 2011 State Title.

Charleston's Chucker: Gabe Encinas, the SAL-leader with a 0.39 ERA (1 ER/23 IP) makes his fifth start of the season. He ranks fourth in all MiLB in ERA. He also leads the SAL with a 0.78 WHIP (T-20th in MiLB), ranks second in the SAL average holding hitters to .138 (11th in MiLB), and his three wins are tied for the most on the circuit. He has not allowed an earned run since April 12 when he allowed a run over 6.0 innings in his only no decision of the year. The Yankees selected the Whittier, Calif.- native in the sixth round of the June 2010 draft.

About Last Night: The RiverDogs scored six runs in the first inning and never looked back in a 15-5 win over the Intimidators. O'Brien launched a 3-run home run and drove in a game-high five RBI, the most by an Intimidators opponent this season, and G Bird went 4-6 with three runs scored and two RBI. Kannapolis starter Brandon Brennan lasted 2/3 of an inning in his third loss of the year while Charleston's Rafael De Paula worked 5.0 innings for the win.

Micah Moving: Leadoff man Micah Johnson swiped his 20th base of the season on Saturday, leading all of Minor League Baseball. His 20 SBs are six more than the next closest base-stealer, Reds prospect Billy Hamilton who ran wild on the base paths in 2012 (setting an MiLB record with 155 stolen bases last season) and seven more than the next-closest South Atlantic Leaguer. Johnson's run scored in the first inning gives him 19 on the year, fourth in the league and tied for 19th in all of Minor League Baseball. He also leads the league with four triples, tied for fourth in all of Minor League Baseball.

Who Let The Dogs Out: The RiverDogs opened Saturday with a 6-run inning en route to 15 runs, equaling the most scored by a SAL team this season (Asheville beat West Virginia 15-6 on April 5). Kannapolis had not allowed at least 15 runs since June 11, 2012, when the Intimidators lost 16-5 at home to Greensboro.

Kiser Rolls: Kale Kiser led off the third inning on Saturday with his first home run of the year and finished 2-4 with 2 runs scored against the RiverDogs. It was his first multi-hit game since April 9 and fourth of the season. He opened 2013 as arguably the SAL's best hitter, batting .526 (10-19) with 11 RBI in his first six games.

Sweet Relief: Adam Lopez struck out five batters over 3.0 relief innings on Saturday, upping his season total to 23 strikeouts, tied for second on the team. Lopez ranks fourth in the SAL in strikeouts per 9 IP for relievers at 14.79 (23 SO/14 IP).

Coastin' Coats: Jason Coats went 1-4 on Saturday for his 32nd hit of the season, tied for second-most in the SAL. He is batting .352 over 23 games, seventh in the SAL, and is tied for fourth in the league with 91 at-bats. He leads the Intimidators with seven doubles. Coats hit safely April 12-24, tied for the second-longest hitting streak in the league this season.
