SAVANNAH, Ga. - Savannah catcher Luke Montz is nothing if not clutch. On July 2 with bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth and the score tied at one, Montz drew a walk to win the game and whip the large home crowd into a frenzy. Last Thursday in the first game of double header, Montz smacked a grand slam to put the game out of reach in a win over Hickory. Monday night, Montz made it a trifecta, blasting his second grand slam in a week to lead Savannah to a 7-4 victory over Augusta.

The Gnats and Augusta scrapped for nearly an hour through a first inning that included several stolen bases, a wild pitch and back-to-back GreenJacket triples. When the dust settled, the teams were knotted at three - a score that would hold up until the bottom of the fourth.

Back-to-back singles by Seth Bynum and Reggie Fitzpatrick, and a walk by Rogearvin Bernadina set the stage for more Montz dramatics. An ill-placed fastball by Jackets reliever Arnoldo Mercado found itself neatly deposited in Grayson's left field bleachers.

Montz's second grand slam in a week was just the third this season for Savannah. It also gave Montz only his fifth hit in his last ten games - four of which have been home runs.

Savannah and Augusta face off in the third game of the four-game set Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. The first 1,000 fans in attendance pick up a Sand Gnats replica road cap. Tickets are available online at www.sandgnats.com, or by calling the Gnats box office at 912-351-9150.
