Sarnia Sting News Release
With 3,058 looking on at the Sarnia Sports and Entertainment Centre, the Sting were in command from the opening face-off as they shut down the high octane offence of the Colts, beating Barrie 6-2 on Friday night.
Travis Konecny spearheaded the win with 2 goals and 1 assist to run his consecutive point streak to 14 games (11 goals, 15 assists). Devon Paliani continued his strong play of late with a goal and an assist. Likewise for Brandon Lindberg who pitched in with a two point effort (1G, 1A). Anthony Salinitri and Jeff King contributed to the win with a goal each.Defencemen Jakob Chychrun had a season high of four assists.
Goaltender Charlie Graham notched his seventh win as a member of the Sting, since coming over in a trade with the Hamilton Bulldogs. Graham stopped 29 of 31 shots against one of the best offensive teams in the league.
Andrew Mangiapane and Dylan Sadowy scored for Barrie while Kevin Labanc added to his OHL scoring league with a pair of assists. Mackenzie Blackwood turned away 32 of 36 shots in net for the Colts.
Travis Konecny, wasted no time, getting off a shot from a bad angle to put Sarnia up by a goal early in the opening period. Chychrun and Lajeunesse got the assists. The goal, Konecny's 24th on the season, came early at 4:16.
Three minutes later, the score went to 2-0, as Devon Paliani made good on a pass from Chychrun at 7:19. Brandon Lindberg was also credited with an assist on Paliani's 6th of the season. Sarnia not only controlled the period, they also dominated the shots at 14-7 through the first twenty minutes.
Andrew Mangiapane's goal, sliced the Sarnia lead in half at 5:53 with help from Kevin Labanc and Julius Nattinen. Mangiapane's goal was his 43rd, tying him for second in the OHL.
Anthony Salinitri on a great individual effort, restored Sarnia's two goal lead with an unassisted tally at 11:57. The Colts got it back less than three minutes later to restore the one goal margin as Sadowy scored on the powerplay. Rasmus Andersson and Labanc were credited with the helpers.
Sarnia scored late in the second period to increase the lead at 4-2. Lindberg picked up his 8th goal of the season at 16:27. Paliani and Chychrun drew the assists. The Sting added a huge insurance goal in the final minute at 19:13 as Konecny added his second goal of the night from the stick of Nikita Korostelev.
Sarnia scored the only goal of the third period as King iced the win with a power play goal. Konecny and Chychrun were credited with the assists at 7:54.
