February 26, 2016 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Ottawa 67's News Release
On REDBLACKS night at TD Place, the Ottawa 67's scored a touchdown.
Kicking off the first of two final home games before the 67's hit the road while the Brier is at TD Place, the Barber Poles gave a great crowd of 5,314 plenty to cheer about as the goals came early and often in a 8-2 win over the Sudbury Wolves.
Locked in a tight battle for home ice advantage in the OHL's Eastern Conference playoffs, it was captain Jake Middleton who struck first, scoring sixth of the season less than two minutes into the game.
Rookie Austen Keating, with his 13th, followed that one up a few minutes later, while singles from Jeremiah Addison (his 23rd) and Dante Salituro (32nd) gave Ottawa a commanding 4-0 lead after 40 minutes.
The win moves Ottawa into fifth spot in the east, just a point behind the Mississauga Steelheads.
Coach and General Manager Jeff Brown said it was important for his team to pick up as many points at home as they can this weekend.
"It was nice to win a game like that, we got a couple good days of practice this week and it showed tonight ." he said.
After Sudbury's Mikkel Aagaard was given a four-minute penalty for hitting Addison into the boards from behind, the 67's quickly made the visitors pay on the subsequent powerplay as Artur Tyanulin potted his 11th of the year. With just one second left in the second, Addison, who returned to action after briefly going to the locker room following the hit, notched his second of the game to put Ottawa up 6-0 after 40 minutes.
"It was good hockey tonight, we had our legs, we want to play against the best teams and want beat the best teams as well," Addison said.
Trent Mallette added his ninth of the year midway through the third before Sudbury's Alan Lyzsczarczyk broke the shutout bid of Ottawa goalie Leo Lazarev. Chase Campbell, with his third of the year, restored Ottawa's seven-goal lead 30 seconds later. Dmitry Sokolov rounded out the scoring for the Wolves.
Keating (1 goal, 2 assists), Addison (2 goals, 1 assist), Tyanulin (1 goal, 1 assist), Stepan Falkovsky (2 assists), Nathan Todd (3 assists) and Salituro (1 goal, 1 assist) all had multi-point games for Ottawa.
Lazarev wasn't busy much of the night but stood tall when called upon, finishing with 13 saves. Troy Timpano stopped 29 of 37 shots for the Wolves.
The 67's return to action Saturday afternoon at TD Place when they host the London Knights at 1:00 p.m.
