Asheville Tourists News Release

ASHEVILLE--Antonio Santos and Dane Dunning went toe-to-toe on Tuesday night. Santos shined for the Asheville Tourists but Dunning was nearly unhittable for the visiting Kannapolis Intimidators. A late rally for Kannapolis solidified their 6-1 win over Asheville.

For the third straight outing, Santos pitched six innings and allowed two runs or less. Asheville's right-hander scattered five hits and two runs while striking out six. Dunning also pitched six frames and limited the Tourists to only four hits and no runs. The Tourists have yet to score a run this season in Santos' 18 innings on the mound.

After Asheville's starting pitcher departed, Vince Fernandez clubbed an eighth inning Home Run to pull the Tourists within a run at 2-1. It appeared as if Asheville would have a chance in the bottom of the ninth, but Kannapolis wouldn't allow it.

The Intimidators strung together five consecutive base hits with two outs in the top of the ninth that netted a total of four runs. The Tourists went down in order in the bottom half.

Asheville matched a season low in hits with six; however, they snapped a streak of seven straight games committing an error by playing a clean defensive contest. The Tourists dipped below .500 since they began the season with a 1-2 record.

After losing the first two games to the Intimidators, Asheville has now lost a series for the first time this year. Wednesday night the Tourists will conclude their homestand and attempt to avoid being swept by the Intimidators.
