Charleston Dirty Birds News Release

Hickory, NC- The West Virginia Power beat the Hickory Crawdads 8-3 Tuesday night at L.P. Frans Stadium. Carlos Munoz homered for the second time in three days and drove in three to pace the Power to their fifth straight win.

One night after scoring 19 runs on 22 hits, West Virginia could not get the bats going over the first three innings. The Power left the bases loaded against Demarcus Evans in the first and left another runner on in the third. West Virginia did plate the first run, however, in the fourth. Stephen Alemais tripled and scored on a wild pitch for a 1-0 lead.

West Virginia starter Oddy Nunez was sharp, keeping the Crawdads hitless over four innings; his longest outing of the season. Nunez did not factor in the decision, striking out two and walking one before being lifted after four complete.

In the top of the fifth, the Power added three to their lead. Hunter Owen singled in Logan Ratledge for his first run batted in this season. Carlos Munoz drilled a 2-1 pitch from Hickory reliever Tyler Phillips over the right field wall with Owen on for a 4-0 Power advantage.

After Hickory scored once in the bottom of the fifth without a base hit, the Power scored four more in the sixth for an 8-1 lead. All nine men came to the plate, keyed by run-scoring hits from Sandy Santos, Ty Moore and Munoz. Ratledge also added a sac fly to help build the seven-run margin.

The Crawdads scored once in the sixth and once in the seventh, but would not get any closer.

Blake Cederlind (1-0) earned the win in relief of Nunez, allowing two unearned runs over two innings. Evans (0-2) took the loss after allowing the first run. Ratledge and Moore extended their hitting streaks to seven and eight games, respectively, as the Power clinched their second series of the two-city road trip.

West Virginia and Hickory conclude this three-game series on Wednesday night at 6:00 P.M. The Power have Luis Escobar slated to start against Jonathan Hernandez and the Crawdads. West Virginia begins a seven game homestand Thursday evening at Appalachian Power Park with the Lakewood BlueClaws and Charleston RiverDogs coming to town.

First Half Record:

6-7
