LAKEWOOD, NJ - Luke Williams hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the 13th inning as the BlueClaws topped Hagerstown 4-3. Williams drove home Daniel Brito, who reached four times and led off the 13th inning with a single.
The win is Lakewood's second straight and puts them at 7-5 on the season, while Hagerstown falls to 7-5. The teams played 15 innings on Tuesday at Hagerstown.
Williams' walk-off hit was the first walk-off win for the BlueClaws this year. Both he and Brito had three hits in the game.
Will Hibbs (2-0) earned the win retiring all four hitters he faced and getting out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the 12th inning.
Each team scored early on. The Suns got two in the first on an RBI groundout by Carter Kieboom and an RBI single by Sheldon Neuse. Then Lakewood got one back in the bottom of the first on a Mickey Moniak RBI triple and tied the game in the second on a SAC fly from Edgar Cabral.
After the teams exchanged runs to tie the score at three, the pitching took over, with neither team scoring into the eighth. There, BlueClaws reliever Felix Paulino navigated around runners on the corners with one out to keep the game tied.
The BlueClaws had a chance in the eighth with runners at first and second and nobody out but failed to score off reliever Hayden Howard.
Lakewood starter Bailey Falter went six and allowed three runs, two earned. Meanwhile, Hagerstown starter Tyler Watson gave up three runs, one earned, in six innings with seven strikeouts.
The series with the Suns continues on Tuesday night at 6:35 pm. LHP JoJo Romero (0-0, 5.00) starts for Lakewood opposite RHP Sterling Sharp (0-0, 9.00).
