Tovar's Homer Pushes Drive Past Legends, 3-2
April 18, 2017 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Greenville Drive News Release
Lexington, KY - Thanks to a go-ahead two-run home run by Carlos Tovar in the top of the sixth inning, the Greenville Drive defeated the Lexington Legends 3-2 on Tuesday night to even the series at one game apiece.
The Drive (8-5) began the sixth with a single by Yoan Aybar, and Tovar followed by belting a two-run homer to left field off Gerson Garabito (1-1) to make the score 3-2.
The home run gave the Drive all of their offense in Tuesday's contest, as Bobby Dalbec smacked a two-out solo shot to right field in the top of the first to give the Drive an early lead.
Lexington (4-9) answered back with a run in the first on an RBI single by Chris DeVito, and a solo homer in the third by Khalil Lee gave the Legends a 2-1 lead.
Tovar's homer made a winner out of Drive starter Mike Shawaryn (1-1), who earned his first professional victory by striking out eight over five and one-third innings.
The Legends threatened in the bottom of the sixth by putting two men on with one out, but Jordan Weems entered the game and notched a force out and a strikeout to end the threat.
Hildemaro Requena hurled two scoreless innings for the Drive to record his first save.
The rubber game of the three-game series in Lexington begins at a special start time of 10:05 AM on Wednesday. The Drive will start left-hander Logan Boyd (1-0, 3.72), while the Legends will give the ball to right-hander Ofreidy Gomez (0-2, 8.00).
