Santos scores third goal of the season; Przybylko scores game-winning goal

CHESTER, Pa. - The Philadelphia Union beat D.C. United 2-1 on a rainy Saturday night at Subaru Park. With the win, the Union jump to second place in the Eastern Conference with 23 points. Early in the first half, midfielder Daniel Gazdag provided the pivotal touch for Sergio Santos to open the scoring. In the 51', Yamil Asad scored the equalizer from a penalty kick. Kacper Przybylko netted the late game-winning goal in the 83' thanks to a selfless assist from Sergio Santos. After a rain delay the Union held strong in defense to secure the three points.

The Union are on the road at Exploria Stadium on Thursday where they will face Orlando City SC (7:30 p.m. ET / PHL17).

With the 2-1 win at home, Philadelphia extends their unbeaten streak to 10-straight games against D.C. United (W9 D1) dating back to the beginning of the 2017 season.

Goalkeeper Joe Bendik made his first start of 2021 in net for Philadelphia. The start is his 181st of his MLS career and his first since November 1, 2020. Bendik recorded two saves in the win.

Captain Alejandro Bedoya made his 135th career start for the Boys in Blue.

Midfielder Daniel Gazdag got the start at the number 10 position for the first time in his Union career, registering his first assist. The start marks his fifth team appearance.

Forward Sergio Santos earned his 30th career start as a member for Philadelphia Union, scoring his 3rd goal of the season and recording an assist.

Forward Kacper Przybylko has scored five goals in five games against D.C. United, including scoring the winning goal when the sides met in May. Tonight, he scored his fourth goal of the season, tying Cory Burke for team-lead in scoring.
