Chicago Fire FC News Release
CHICAGO - Chicago Fire FC will play two matches in four days at Soldier Field this week. On Wednesday, July 21, Chicago will face D.C. United on the lakefront at 7:00 p.m. CT (WGN-TV, CFFC Live and WOJO 105.1 FM). Wednesday's match marks the second meeting between Chicago (3-8-2, 11 points) and D.C. (5-7-1, 16 points) this season, with the Fire falling 1-0 in the May 13 encounter at Audi Field. Overall, the Fire have posted a 12-7-12 home record against D.C. United since 1998. The Fire's last home win against D.C. United was a 2-1 victory at Soldier Field on Oct. 11, 2020. The upcoming matchup will be the second straight road match for D.C. United, who is coming off a 2-1 loss to the Philadelphia Union at Subaru Park on July 17.
Saturday's contest will be the Fire's first match against Toronto FC since a 2-2 draw at SeatGeek Stadium on Sept. 29, 2019. Historically, Chicago is 5-3-6 at home against Toronto in regular season play. Toronto (2-8-3, 9 points) recently played its first home match at BMO Field since March 7, 2020, battling Orlando City SC to a 1-1 draw on July 17. The Reds will face the New York Red Bulls at home on Wednesday before traveling to Chicago.
Saturday's match against Toronto will feature the Chicago Fire Foundation's second annual Raise for P.L.A.Y.S. fundraiser. Proceeds will benefit the Fire Foundation's award-winning P.L.A.Y.S. (Participate, Learn, Achieve, Youth, Soccer) Program. Additionally, the first 10,000 fans to enter the stadium will receive an exclusive poster featuring midfielder Gastón Giménez.
