Santa Cruz Warriors Win Ninth Straight with Victory over Idaho

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Warriors defeated the Idaho Stampede 89-84 Monday night and extended their winning streak to an NBA D-League best nine games.

The Santa Cruz Warriors were led by Jeremy Tyler, who scored 22 points off the bench. Cameron Jones added 16 points, including going 8-of-8 from the free throw line, and Stefhon Hannah chipped in with 13.

Idaho was paced by Justin Holiday, who poured in 15 points in the first half and finished the night with a game-high 28. Coby Karl added 18 points and a game-high eight assists, while Sean Evans scored 12 points off the bench.

Idaho ended the first half ahead 44-36, and extended their lead to as much as 13 early in the third quarter. The Warriors came roaring back and tied the game with 41 seconds left on a Daniel Nwaelele lay-up. Santa Cruz took the lead early in the fourth off a thundering Jeremy Tyler reverse dunk from Scott Machado. Trading baskets down the stretch, Santa Cruz pulled away for good en route to the 89-84 win.

Santa Cruz shot 40.5% from the field and held Idaho to 36.2%. Santa Cruz also connected on 89.3% from the stripe compared to the Stampede's 77.8%. The Warriors outrebounded Idaho (45-36), scored more points in the paint (48-22) and collected more steals (15-11), but Idaho handed out more assists (21-20).
