Jones' Double-Double Leads Vipers Past Tulsa

HIDALGO, Texas - Terrence Jones' double-double, 25 points, 11 rebounds led the Rio Grande Valley Vipers past the Tulsa 66ers 104-94 tonight at State Farm Arena.

Additionally, the Vipers were led by Andrew Goudelock's 22 points. Royce White and Glen Rice, Jr. each added 19 points. D.J. Kennedy tallied 10 points.

Rasual Butler led Tulsa with 27 points. DeAndre Liggins added 17 points. Tony Taylor recorded 12 points, and Ron Anderson scored 10 points. Dominique Sutton contributed 10 rebounds.

A jump shot from Goudelock put the Vipers ahead 13-9 at the 6:20 mark in the first quarter. Anderson responded with a jump shot for the 66ers, and Butler shot from behind the arc to put Tulsa on top 14-13. The 66ers maintained control and led 25-19 at the end of the first quarter.

Jones opened the second quarter with back-to-back shots to put the Vipers within two points, 25-23 of the 66ers. White followed with a layup to tie the game at 25 points two minutes into the quarter. The Vipers were not able to break away until the end of the quarter. With 3:43 remaining in the first half, Kennedy shot a three-pointer the sent the Vipers on a run. At the end of the half, RGV held the 52-46 advantage.

The lead changed four times during the third quarter. With 2:59 on the clock Goudelock connected on a 24' three-pointer to put the Vipers up 72-67. Despite the 66ers outscoring the Vipers 27-24 in the quarter, RGV held the 76-73 lead at the end of the third.

Liggins shot from behind the arc to the game at 76 points early in the fourth quarter. White responded with a dunk to put the Vipers back up 78-76. The Vipers never looked back. A layup, plus one at the line from White gave RGV their largest lead 15 points, 100-85 with 4:10 remaining. The Vipers claimed the game 104-94.

The Vipers host the Tulsa 66ers in the second game of a back-to-back series Wednesday, March 27 at 7 p.m. The Sioux Falls Skyforce come to town for games March 29 and 30.
