Santa Cruz Warriors News Release
ONTARIO, CA - The Santa Cruz Warriors (4-6) beat the Agua Caliente Clippers (5-4) in the first game of this week's back-to-back, 122-121.
Golden State Warriors Assignment Guard Moses Moody got off to a hot start to score 14 points in the first quarter and helped the Warriors to a four-point first quarter lead, 38-34. Agua Caliente found a 22-7 run midway through the second quarter to take their first lead of the game, 58-57, with 3:12 left in the half. The Clippers went into halftime with a three-point advantage, 66-63.
The Warriors made four three-pointers in a row to find an 89-80 lead in the third quarter and were able to extend their lead to 12 to go into the final frame, 103-91. Forward Jonathan Kuminga, also on assignment from Golden State, tallied 14 third-quarter points.
In the fourth quarter, the Warriors kept their lead, but the Clippers made it interesting when center Jay Scrubb hit a three pointer with 2.6 seconds left to bring the score to 122-121. The Clippers then fouled and sent Warriors two-way guard Jeff Dowtin Jr to the line. Dowtin Jr missed both free throws and the clock fortunately ran out before the Clippers could get a shot up. The Warriors held on to win the first game of this week's back-to-back against the Clippers.
Moody finished the night with a season-high 37 points and Kuminga finished with 25 points. Dowtin Jr was efficient in his 34 minutes (17 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists).
Scrubb led the Clippers with 32 points (11-22 FG). LA Clippers Two-Way Guard Amir Coffey added 23 points and eight rebounds in his team-high 40 minutes.
Santa Cruz will play Agua Caliente again tomorrow night, December 9, at 7:30 p.m. PST on NBC Sports Bay Area. For more information on the Santa Cruz Warriors, visit santacruzbasketball.com or call (831) 713-4400.
