Santa Cruz Warriors Defeat the Rip City Remix, 103-90

SANTA CRUZ, CA - The Santa Cruz Warriors (6-1) defeated the Rip City Remix (4-5) on Friday night at Kaiser Permanente Arena in front of a sold-out crowd.

Guard Kendric Davis led the Warriors in scoring with 21 points. Two-way guard Lester Quinones followed closely with 19 points and eight rebounds and forward Gui Santos, on assignment from Golden State, closed out the night with 16 points. Most notably, center Jayce Johnson dominated the boards, tying the franchise record with 24 rebounds to go with eight points.

Four Remix players scored in the double-digits, including two-way forward Justin Minaya with 12 points and five assists. Guard Ashton Hagans and forward Jarrey Foster scored 11 points each and guard Malachi Smith contributed 10 points to round out the night.

The Warriors opened the contest with a 9-0 run and closed out the frame with a 26-18 lead thanks to six points each from Santos and Quinones. Santa Cruz kept their hot start going in the second quarter, extending their lead by as many as 24 points while holding the Remix to 10 second quarter points to finish the half with a score of 58-42.

The Sea Dubs grew their lead to 28 points in the third quarter and headed into the final frame with an 88-60 lead over Rip City. However, the Remix fought back in the final quarter and scored 18 unanswered points to eventually close the gap to just 11 points. Despite Rip City's fourth quarter offensive efforts, Santa Cruz held on and managed to come away with a 103-90 win.

The Santa Cruz Warriors are back in action tomorrow night for a rematch against the Rip City Remix at 7 p.m. PT at Kaiser Permanente Arena in Santa Cruz, CA. In addition, the team has officially announced a temporary name change to the "Santa Cruz Surfers" for their upcoming game on March 15 against the G League Ignite.
