SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - Despite a back-and-forth first quarter, the Santa Cruz Warriors (23-27) ended the 2017-18 season with a 105-113 loss to the Reno Bighorns (29-21) at Kaiser Permanente Arena. Reno has now clinched the #2 seed and a first-round bye in the NBA G League Playoffs.
Five Santa Cruz Warriors scored between 16 and 18 points tonight, with forward Terrence Jones leading the team with 18 points and 10 rebounds, his fourth double-double of the season. Guard Jeremy Pargo logged 16 points and 12 assists, his seventh double-double in just 12 games. Center Damian Jones, currently on assignment from Golden State, had 18 points on 8-of-11 from the field, securing a league-best 68.0 percent from the field this season (278-of-409 FG).
Kings two-way forward JaKarr Sampson led both teams with 27 points tonight and guard Marcus Williams added 12 points and 18 assists, the most dimes by a Warriors opponent this season. Reno had 48 bench points against Santa Cruz, led by guard Josh Hagins with 18 points and forward Daniel Ochefu with 17 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks.
Damian Jones had 11 points on perfect 5-of-5 from the field in a competitive first quarter that featured 13 lead changes and six ties. The Bighorns took control of the game in the second, building a 10 point lead thanks to a 16 point explosion with four threes from Haggins and Ochefu logging 11 points and four rebounds.
Terrence Jones had all 18 of his points in the second half, leading a Sea Dubs comeback to within two points early in the fourth quarter. Reno then ran off 15 consecutive points thanks to Sampson's 10 fourth quarter to secure the 4-0 season sweep over the Warriors. This is the first time that Santa Cruz has lost the season series against Reno in the franchise's six year history.
