Santa Cruz Warriors News Release

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Warriors have acquired forward Chris Johnson as a returning player. He has joined the team in Boise in time for tonight's game against the Idaho Stampede.

Johnson, who received three GATORADE Call-Ups to the NBA over the last two seasons, has played with the Portland Trail Blazers, New Orleans Hornets, Boston Celtics and Minnesota Timberwolves. Last season, the 6'11", 220-pound forward averaged 2.0 points and 1.5 rebounds in 6.5 minutes played over 20 games with Portland and 7 games with New Orleans.

"Chris Johnson brings so much to the table," said Santa Cruz Warriors Head Coach Nate Bjorkgren. "His NBA background, proven D-League experience and defensive prowess make him a fantastic addition to our team early in the season."

Johnson was drafted ninth overall by the Dakota Wizards in the 2010 NBA D-League Draft, averaging 16.2 points and 9.2 rebounds in 35 games with the team that season. He was named the 2011 D-League Defensive Player of the Year, which means the Santa Cruz Warriors have the two most recent defensive players of the year (Stefhon Hannah received the honor in 2012).

The Santa Cruz Warriors will tip-off tonight against the Idaho Stampede at CenturyLink Arena in Boise at 6:00 p.m. Pacific time. Fans can listen to the broadcast on the Santa Cruz Warriors flagship station, KION 1460AM/101.1FM or watch a live stream on the NBA D-League's YouTube channel, www.youtube.com/nbadleague.

The Santa Cruz Warriors are the NBA Development League affiliate of the Golden State Warriors. Individual tickets, mini-plans and season tickets are currently on sale at www.santacruzbasketball.com or Santa Cruz Warriors Headquarters at 903 Pacific Avenue.
