TAMPA, Fla. - LHP Reiver SanmartÃn combined with the bullpen to toss Tampa's 12th shutout of the season as the Tarpons blanked the Bradenton Marauders, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon at George M. Steinbrenner Field.
Tampa (35-31, 70-66) has won 13 of its last 15 games to guarantee a winning overall record for the third-consecutive season. The Tarpons are now 12-2 against Bradenton (20-44, 55-74) in the season-series, with the final game set for Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
SanmartÃn (W, 2-0) retired the first seven batters he faced and scattered three hits over six scoreless innings, striking out five without issuing a walk on 78 pitches (58 strikes). The 22-year-old has allowed one unearned run in 12 innings since joining Tampa.
Daniel Barrios led off the bottom of the third against LHP Domingo Robles and blasted a 3-2 fastball just over the left field wall for his first home run of the season, giving the Tarpons a 1-0 lead.
Tampa doubled its lead with a pair of two-out hits in the fifth, when Diego Castillo doubled and scored on a base hit by Dom Thompson-Williams.
Robles (L, 0-3) allowed two earned runs on six hits in five innings, walking three while striking out two on 88 pitches (53 strikes).
RHP Kaleb Ort (H, 1) relieved SanmartÃn in the seventh and stranded a pair of walks before working a 1-2-3 eighth, striking out one over two innings. RHP Kyle Zurak (SV, 1) worked around a one-out single in the ninth to close the game.
LHP Ronny Agustin and LHP Jake Brentz combined to hold Tampa hitless over the final three innings, yielding one walk while tallying four strikeouts.
Estevan Florial (2-for-4) logged the lone multi-hit game. Thompson-Williams (1-for-3, BB, RBI, SB, CS) tallied his 74th RBI (65th with Tampa) and 19th stolen base (16th with Tampa). Barrios (1-for-2, HR, BB, RBI, R) clubbed his first home run since doing so with the GCL Yankees West on August 26, 2017.
The 2018 season concludes with the series-finale between the Tarpons and Marauders on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. RHP Deivi Garcia (2-0, 1.27) is scheduled to start against RHP Pedro Vasquez (0-3, 4.87). Live play-by-play audio will be available on the Tarpons Radio Network.
On "Kids Funday Sunday," kids ages 14-and-under can enjoy half-off kids meals and run the bases after the game.
