Potomac Nationals News Release

(MYRTLE BEACH, SC) The Potomac Nationals ended their road trip on an upswing with a 7-2 win at BB&T Coastal Field that secured a series win on a hot and muggy Sunday night. Sandy Leon was the offensive hero early, Evan Bronson was steady for five innings, and the Nationals cashed in on late defensive miscues to put the Pelicans away.

Bronson - who was making his first start for Potomac since appearing at both AA Harrisburg and AAA Syracuse - earned his third win of the season with five solid innings. He allowed just two runs on three hits; he struck out three and walked none.

Potomac's offense, which was held to just one hit on Saturday, went to work early. Leon drove in the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly in the second inning after Steven Souza led off the frame with a single, and took off before a 3-2 pitch to Zach Walters. Zach Zaneski's throw sailed into center field to put runners at the corners with no outs for Leon. Walters scored on Cutter Dykstra's single to right and Potomac led 2-0.

Myrtle got a run back in their half of the second. Ryan Strausborger led off the inning with a double and scored on consecutive groundouts to first.

After Sandy Leon homered to open the fourth off Wilfredo Boscan - who, like Leon is from Maracaibo, Venezuela - the Pelicans again answered in their half. Jared Prince homered off Bronson to open the inning and make it 3-2.

Potomac cashed in on three Leury Garcia errors to score four unearned runs in the seventh and eighth innings.

Marcos Frias and Josh Smoker both tossed a pair of scoreless innings to close down the victory.

Potomac opens a seven-game homestand Monday night with the Salem Red Sox in town. Paul Demny opens the series on the mound against Chris Hernandez at 7:05 P.M.
