Florence, Kentucky: The series finale was a crucial one for both teams, and 1,310 fans at Champion Window Field cheered on their Freedom to an 11-3 pounding of the Evansville Otters.
The Freedom welcomed Channel 9 sports personality, Paula Faris to the game, and she did a great job as guest PA announcer. Kyle Geswein got the scoring started in the first, when he smacked his 22nd homerun of the season, bringing in Greg Stone, Zack Schmidt, and himself. The Freedom put up two more in the second, when Josh Sanchez hit one over the leftfield wall, his fourth homerun of the season. Sanchez also added a handful of fine defensive plays at shortstop. In the eighth, Darrin Kinsolving drove his 14th homer of the year of the scoreboard, for an 11-3 lead. Trevor Hall wrapped up a great series, going 4-5; he had nine hits in the series. Kinsolving finished the night 2-5, with two RBI. Corey Thurman (1-3) picked up his first victory in a Freedom uniform, going six innings, giving up three earned runs on five hits, striking out five. Mickey O'Quinn pitched a scoreless seventh and eighth, and Mike Causey and Kyle Geswein pitched a scoreless ninth.
The Chillicothe Paints beat the Washington Wild Things, so the Freedom stay right where they are, but they do move back into third place. They are still three games back of the final playoff spot, and they head into Chillicothe to play the team that holds it. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday the Freedom will be at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe.
