Grizzlies, 'Hawks split double-header

The Gateway Grizzlies extended their winning streak to seven games Thursday night, but only briefly. The Grizzlies took game one of a double-header from the Rockford RiverHawks 10-4, before dropping the second game 3-2.

The Grizzlies reamain one game back of second place. They are 42-41. Rockford is in second place in the West at 43-40.

In game one, the Grizzlies led 4-3 heading into the seventh inning. They scored six times in the seventh to put the game away. Freddy Lopez was 2-3 with a pair of RBIs in game one. Ryan Sullivan picked up three RBIs on a bases-loaded double in that seventh inning.

Brandon Smith (11-3) picked up the win, going the first six innings. He allowed three runs on four hits. Scott Patterson pitched the seventh allowing a run on three hits.

The Grizzlies trailed 2-0 in game two before scoring a pair of runs in the fifth to even the game at two. It remained even until the bottom of the seventh. With two on and two outs, Aaron McEachran lined a ball through the right side of the infield. The hit scored the winning run for Rockford.

Chris Little (1-1) took the loss in relief in game two. He went 1 1/3 innings allowing the one run on four hits. Alex Justus started and went the first 5 1/3 innings.

Mike Breyman led the way for the Grizzlies in game two. He was 3-3 with an RBI. Thomari Story-Harden picked up the other RBI on a sacrifice fly. Phil Warren was 2-3.

The Grizzlies and RiverHawks continue the five-game series with another double-header Friday night in Rockford. Game one gets underway at 6:05 p.m. Fans can tune in on the Grizzlies radio network starting at 6:00.
