Washington Wild Things News Release
The Washington Wild Things (58-27), presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, squeaked by the Richmond Roosters 7-6 at Don McBride Stadium Thursday.
At one point the Wild Things lead the Roosters by seven runs, but the Roosters "strutted their stuff" and worked their way back to threaten the first place Wild Things.
Richmond Pitcher Chris Regas, who entered the game in the middle of the fifth inning, quieted the Wild Things bats by striking out 13.
The scoring began in the first inning for Washington when Matt Swope scored on a Chris Carter ground out. Then in the second, Pat O'Brien hit a solo home run, which set the tone for Washington, who scored five runs, taking the score to 6-0.
O'Brien scored again in the fifth, but in the bottom of the inning, the Roosters exploded with six runs, threatening the Wild Things comfortable seven run lead.
The Wild Things were able to hold onto their one run lead to beat the Richmond Roosters 7-6.
Brendon Davis (8-1) got the win, allowing four hits, six runs, walking three, and striking out four in five innings of work. B.J. Borsa and Stephen Spragg combined for the remaining four innings. Spragg earns his 11th save of the season.
The Wild Things and Roosters meet again Friday night at Don McBride Stadium in Richmond Indiana when first pitch is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. Eastern time. Air time on WJPA 95.3 FM and www.msasports.net is 7:25 p.m.
