Cleburne Railroaders News Release
CLEBURNE, Texas - Jesus Sanchez fired six scoreless innings and a trio of relievers handled the final three as the Cleburne Railroaders shut out the St. Paul Saints 2-0 on Saturday night at The Depot at Cleburne Station.
After two rough starts, Sanchez (2-2) returned to his Opening Night form with a dominant outing. The right-hander allowed only two hits without walking a batter, throwing 79 pitches to pick up his second win of the season. He only registered one strikeout on the evening, but retired seven of the last eight to come to the plate against him. St. Paul (9-6) did not get a runner to third base the entire evening.
The Railroaders (9-7) quickly eliminated the possibility of a second consecutive no-hitter in the first inning, as Zach Nehrir cranked a one-out solo home run over the fence in left for a 1-0 lead. Offense was hard to find after that, but Cleburne managed to scratch across an insurance run in the sixth. Nehrir singled, moved to third on a double from Chase Simpson, and came in to score on a ground out from Angel Rosa for a 2-0 lead.
The combination of Hayden Shenefield, Edward Cruz, and Tyler Wilson closed it out with more stellar relief, as each worked a scoreless inning. Wilson tossed a zero up in the ninth with two strikeouts to secure his second save of the season, dancing around a pair of base runners in the process.
Dustin Crenshaw (1-1) took the loss for St. Paul, allowing five hits and two earned runs over 5.2 innings of work.
The Railroaders and Saints conclude their series on Sunday night, with first pitch scheduled for 6:05 PM. Left-hander Eudis Idrogo (1-0, 8.04) gets the ball for Cleburne, while the Saints will counter with righty Jake Matthys (1-1, 5.82).
