San Jose Assigns D Jason Demers To Thunder

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, a two-time recipient of the ECHL's "Award of Excellence," announced the San Jose Sharks have assigned defenseman Jason Demers (Duh-MURS) to the Thunder.

Demers, 21, becomes the first skater, second player overall (goaltender Bryan Pitton from Edmonton, 2009-10) in Thunder history to be assigned directly from an NHL team and has suited up in 34 games with San Jose this season, ranking second among the team's defensemen with 15 points (2g-13a) from the blueline, additionally collecting 12 penalty minutes and a +8 rating in his NHL rookie campaign.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound defensemen was selected by San Jose in the seventh round (186th overall) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft and has also skated in 83 career games for Worcester in two seasons (2008-10), scoring 36 points (4g-32a) and amassing 54 penalty minutes.

In 2007-08 he led all Quebec Major Junior Hockey League defensemen by recording 64 points (9-55=64) with Victoriaville. He also was fourth on his team with 91 penalty minutes after attending the Sharks rookie camp in September of 2007.

Demers, in 215 career games with Victoriaville and Moncton, scored 108 points (17g-91a) and added 272 penalty minutes in four junior seasons (2004-08).
