San Diego Gulls to Participate in Frozen Fairgrounds Outdoor Ice

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Gulls announced today that the American Hockey League (AHL) club will participate in Frozen Fairgrounds, two outdoor ice rinks that will host ice hockey and ice skating events from Dec. 15-31. Golden State Ice Sports (GS Ice Sports) and International Hockey Events (IHE), California-based specialized ice hockey production companies, will host Frozen Fairgrounds at Del Mar Fairgrounds in San Diego, a premier outdoor event for the 2017 holiday season.

On Monday, Dec. 18, the Gulls will become the first professional ice hockey team to practice outdoors in San Diego as the team will host an outdoor practice beginning at 10 a.m. The club's practice will be open to the public and free of charge. On Wednesday, Dec. 20, the Gulls will also host a public skating session under the lights from 6-8 p.m. and the ability to meet and skate with Gulls players, Gulliver and the Gulls Girls.

Frozen Fairgrounds will be open to the public from Dec. 15-31. Frozen Fairgrounds will feature two (2) ice rinks, including a 7,200 -square-foot community ice rink and an NHL-regulation size ice hockey rink, the first ever NHL-sized ice rink to be installed outdoors in San Diego.

A press conference is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 23 at 10:30 a.m. at the Del Mar Arena. Speakers will include both event hosts and organizers, Rich Cubin (GS Ice Sports) and Barry Sherer (IHE), as well as Matt Savant, San Diego Gulls President of Business Operations.
