San Antonio Missions News Release
SAN ANTONIO - The Frisco RoughRiders took advantage of some timely hitting and clutch pitching on their way to a 6-2 victory Friday night. After three scoreless innings, Frisco scored in four of the last six innings.
It was a pitcher's duel in the first three innings between the Missions and RoughRiders. Neither team collected a base hit. Reiss Knehr was the starter for San Antonio against Yerry Rodriguez for Frisco.
It became a different ballgame beginning in the fourth inning. Frisco's Steele Walker launched a two-out homerun off Missions' starter Reiss Knehr. The solo home run broke the scoreless tie.
The Missions answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the fourth inning. Kyle Overstreet led off the inning with a double. He ended up scoring on a sacrifice fly courtesy of catcher Juan Fernandez.
Frisco regained the lead by adding two runs in the next inning. After two walks and a single, Frisco nearly scored on a passed ball. Sherten Apostel was tagged out at the plate trying to score from third. Now with runners on second and third with one out, Diosbel Arias drove in both runners with a single to make it a 3-1 game.
San Antonio cut the lead in half by adding another run in the fifth inning. Jack Suwinski hit his first triple of the season. He was driven in by Missions' outfielder Jose Azocar. Missions trailed 3-2.
Two more runs were scored by Frisco in the seventh inning. The RoughRiders used some small-ball techniques against the Missions. With the bases loaded, Frisco's first run came on a sacrifice fly. The next batter scored a run on a sacrifice bunt.
Another insurance run from Frisco in the eighth inning made it a 6-2 ballgame. With runners on first and third, Missions' pitcher Henry Henry unleashed a wild pitch, allowing the runner from third to score.
The Missions will continue their six-game homestand against the Frisco RoughRiders on Friday, May 21st. RHP Reiss Knehr (2-0, 4.50) will start for the Missions against RHP Yerry Rodriguez (0-1, 8.31). First pitch will be at 7:05 p.m.
