
Hooks Drop Both Tilts to Travs

CORPUS CHRISTI - The Arkansas Travelers won both games of Thursday's doubleheader against the Hooks, taking the first contest 8-4 followed by a 6-1 decision.
In game one of the day, a makeup from Wednesday's rainout, Hooks starter Hunter Brown (L, 0-2) gave up three runs on six hits in just 1.2 innings of work.
Trailing 5-1 in the fourth inning, the Hooks climbed back in it with RBI singles from Marty Costes, Pedro Leon and J.J. Matijevic. But those were the only hits for Corpus Christi with runners in scoring position, ending 3-for-14 in the seven-inning game. The Hooks left 11 men on base.
Jake Scheiner went 3-for-4 with a walk and three RBIs for the Travs in the first game, and he wasn't done for the day.
Scheiner went 2-for-4, including a two-run homer, in the night cap. Ian McKinney (W, 2-0) carried a no-hitter through four innings until Norel Gonzalez and Grae Kessinger hit back-to-back singles to lead off the fifth. McKinney nearly finished off the shutout, but Gonzalez hit a two-run blast (2) with two outs in the last frame.
Jonathan Bermudez (L, 1-2) fanned nine over 5.0 innings, though he allowed seven hits and four runs (three earned). Bermudez now has 27 strikeouts to just one walk in 15.0 stanzas this season.
Hunter Peck was taken deep twice in two innings of relief for the Hooks.
The Hooks look to get back in the win column Friday with Joe Record on the hill. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. with post-game fireworks, presented by Bud Light.
