Quad City Mallards News Release
MOLINE, Ill. - Sam Warning scored twice as the host Quad City Mallards (5-5-0) defeated the Indy Fuel (2-6-2) 5-3 Saturday night.
After Brayden Low opened the scoring by burying Matt Pohlkamp's centering pass at 8:30 of the first period, Warning doubled the Mallard lead with a one-timer from the slot at 16:46.
Indy's Alex Wideman cut the gap to 2-1 from close range in the final minute of the first, but Warning would rifle the puck in under the cross to reestablish the two goal Mallard lead at 2:22 of the second period. Undaunted, the Fuel then evened the score at three with back-to-back goals from Nick Bligh. Bligh wristed the puck home from the doorstep at 5:51 of the second and tipped in the equalizer at 8:16.
The Mallards replied by retaking the lead for good when Ryan McGrath finished off a 2-on-1 rush at 14:52 of the second. Tristan King turned a rebound into a late insurance goal with just over three minutes left in the third period.
The Mallards and Fuel meet again tomorrow at 4:05 p.m. at the TaxSlayer Center. $1 sodas are available at TaxSlayer Center concession stands during Mallards Sunday home games. In addition, after tomorrow's game and all Sunday home contests, fans can bring their skates and head to the ice to skate with Mallards.
