Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs bounced back in the American Association Championship Series on Wednesday, beating Pensacola 6-1 at Haymarket Park. Lincoln evens the best-of-five series at one game apiece.
Trailing 1-0, the Saltdogs scored the decisive runs in the bottom of the sixth. Former Pelican Rafael Alvarez led off the inning with a solo home run against Pensacola starter Kieran Mattison (1-1) to tie the game. One out later, Gavin Dickey singled, Shea McFeely walked, and Brandon Jones brought both men home with a two-run double. Alvarez added an RBI single in the seventh inning to make the score 4-1, and Lincoln tacked on two more in the eighth, on an RBI double by Jones and an RBI single by Albenis Machado.
Lincoln starter Jim Paduch (2-0) didn't have his best stuff, but battled through six innings, allowing just one run on four hits. Paduch walked four in the game, but he struck out six and picked off a pair of baserunners en route to earning his second win of the postseason. Relievers Matt Petrusek and Chris Thompson combined for three scoreless innings to close out the contest.
Jones ended the night 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored, while Alvarez went 3-for-3 with a pair of RBI and a run scored as well. Machado and Phil Hawke also had a pair of hits each for the Saltdogs, as Lincoln pounded out 12 hits overall.
After a travel day on Thursday, Game Three of the American Association Championship Series takes place Friday night at 7:05 in Pensacola.
