Pensacola Pelicans News Release

The Lincoln Saltdogs evened the best-of-five Championship Series at a game apiece with a 6-1 defeat of the Pelicans Wednesday night. Though the Pelicans took a 1-0 lead, the Saltdogs rallied late to score three runs in the sixth, and ran away with the game.

Against Saltdogs' starter Jim Paduch, the Pelicans would manage just six hits. The only Pensacola run crossed the plate in the top of the fifth. Marcos Rodriguez reached on a fielder's choice, advanced to third on a Dallas Christison single, and scored when Lou Palmisano reached on another fielder's choice.

Kieran Mattison took the loss in his six innings of work. Three Saltdogs' runs scored on six hits and six walks, while Mattison notched four strikeouts. Those three runs scored in the last of the sixth. Former Pelican Rafael Alvarez started the frame with a solo homer, and Gavin Dickey knocked a one out base hit. After Dickey stole second base, Shea McFeely walked, and both men scored on a double by Brandon Jones; 3-1 Saltdogs after six innings of play.

Ron Hill came on to pitch for Pensacola in the top of the seventh. In two innings, Hill allowed three runs on six hits while striking out one. The first run scored when Phil Hawke hit a one out single, moved up on a single by Nunez, and came home when Rafael Alvarez knocked him in with a base hit.

The last Lincoln runs scored in the bottom of the eighth. Shea McFeely singled and Brandon Jones doubled to drive him in. Jones scored as well on a Machado single.

The Lincoln win evens the best-of-five Championship Series at one game apiece. Both teams will travel to Pensacola Thursday and play games three and four in Florida at 7:05 p.m. Friday and Saturday. If necessary, game five will take place in Pensacola at 5:05 on Sunday.
